John
Logan:
John
is the Owner
and founder
of
the Adventure Alliance.
In 1994 John completed a seven-year enlistment
with the United States Army, where he received numerous
commendations and awards for his superior management,
leadership and motivational skills during his tour
as a Non Comissioned Officer and Infantry Paratrooper in Alaska, Arkansas,
Texas, North Carolina and other locations.
He received specialized training for the arctic
environment including Airborne Operations, Air Assault/Rappelling,
Glacier Climbing/Traverse and Arctic Survival Training.
He has been on numerous extended arctic and
glacier expeditions, which include two parachute jumps
within the Arctic Circle.
He is also an avid sportsman and adventurer
and has extensive experience in Texas, Mexico
and Alaska.
John most recently graduated from the United
States Army Academy of Health Sciences Program for
Special Forces Medicine.
He trained in advanced medical/trauma techniques
to be used in a diversity of environments.
John Has 11 years of experience in the field
of ropes course and adventure
facilitation, event planning and consulting.
Lorenza
Phillips, Sr.: Lorenza is the
co-originator and program manager for the Austin Independent
School District's Frost ROPES program. He and his
colleagues have and continue to develop a program
which has provided experiential learning workshops
and activities for over 62,000 participants since
the debut of the Frost ROPES program. Lorenza is
also the founder and owner of In Sync, an experiential
based company whose primary objective is to facilitate
the growth of community, harmony and cooperation within
and between individuals. Lorenza assisted in developing
an ongoing parenting program for Austin ISD and the
Bastrop Federal Correctional Facility. He and his
wife Esther "Pixi" facilitate these weekly classes
to parents and their children. Lorenza has also
teamed with the Riverbend Church Children's Ministry
to provide cooperative recreational and spiritual
based games and activities for the children of Riverbend
for the past 10 years. Lorenza
has performed assignments in many parts of our planet,
as a destroyer, and as a builder. In addition to
learning to speak several languages, these assignments
have enabled him to discern which of the two paths
he is to follow.
Derrick
Wright: Derrick lives in Austin, Texas.
As Chief Navigator of The Terrain Association (www.terrainassociation.com),
Derrick's mission is to teach people skills that will
increase their confidence level and enhance their
appreciation of the outdoors. He is a graduate of
the US Military Academy, a former US Army Ranger,
and served five of eight years in Airborne Ranger
units. Derrick has conducted specialized desert, arctic,
and jungle training, and has completed the Army's
Advanced Land Navigation Course.
Rebecca Jones: Rebecca began caving in the Northeastern US.
She joined the National Cave RescueCommission
in 1993 and became an instructor in 1996. Currently
she specializes in teaching Small Party Self Rescue
and Single Rope Techniques she has caved throughout
the US, in the Ukraine, Ireland, Mexico and Guatemala.
Rebecca is the Coordinator of the Sierra Encantata
Project in SLP, Mexico. A member of several other caving projects, she plans toedit
a revision of the Association for Mexican Cave Studies
book on Caves of the Inter-American Highway.
She recently became an Associate of the Texas
Speleological Survey.
Rebecca graduated from Albright College in
1991 with a degree in Philosophy & History. She has worked with inner city adolescents and in psychiatric
and brain-injury rehab.
She runs a caving, climbing and rescue equipment
business (Gonzo Guano Gear).
Jana
Jones: Jana
loves
adventure.
She has traveled to Alaska, Grand Cayman Island,
New Zealand, and lead trips to Australia and Europe.
She is a low and high Ropes course facilitator
and trainer with 7 years of experience to her credit.
Her specialty is leadership training and teambuilding
collaborations with corporations, teachers, students,
administrations, churches, Universities, and Girl
Scouts. She is known for her outstanding leadership,
as she has served as President and Conference Co-chair
for the Texas Experiential Ropes Association for numerous
years.
She is also a certified teacher, scuba diver,
and massage therapist.
She loves to go snow skiing, caving, river
rafting, diving, rock climbing and has even tried
her luck at bungee jumping in New Zealand.
Wes
Sheward: Wes,
a paramedic with San Marcos, Hays County EMS, is former
Director of Operations for Southerncross Ambulance,
Inc., and has over five years field experience as
a medic. He is an avid outdoorsman and fisherman
with numerous self guided, remote wilderness, successful
hunting and fishing trips to include: Alpine lakes
fishing for golden trout, fly fishing for arctic grayling
in the tributaries of the Yukon river, salmon and
steelhead fishing in both the open waters and rivers
of Washington and Alaska, hunting of elk, bear, deer
(mule, blacktail and whitetail) antelope, and wild
boar in Washington, Montana, and Texas. In some cases,
Wes has used snowshoes to access these locations,
and sustained himself for weeks at a time. He is a
marksman with a rifle, shotgun, pistol and compound
bow, and he is well versed in wilderness survival,
wilderness first aid and land navigation. Currently
he is competing as an ultra-marathon canoe racer and
has multiple finishes in the Texas Water Safari, dubbed
"The Worlds Toughest Canoe Race", a 260 mile non-stop
canoe race from San Marcos, Texas to the Gulf of Mexico.
This year he plans on being the only person to finish
both the Texas Water Safari and the Yukon River Quest,
the Quest being a 460 mile race from Whitehorse to
Dawson City, in the same year.
Nicholas Cowey: Nicholas
holds a BS in Outdoor Recreation from Southwest Texas
State University and has been active in the Boy Scouts
of America his entire life. An Eagle Scout holding
over seventy merit badges Nicholas has extensive knowledge
of both outdoorsmanship and the American Indian and
Mountain Men cultures. He has been a technical
advisor to Turner Network Television productions on
authenticity in clothing, hair, makeup and props working
on the set of Two for Texas. He has worked as
Director of the Living History program for the BSA
in Wisconsin at the Foxfire Outpost and was Camp Director
at Lost Pines Scout Camp in Texas for seven years.
Nicholas brings his creativity, knowledge of youth
and leadership programs and history to the Fort Smith
program.
